Deciding to pop the question can be pretty daunting. Here are 5 tips to help you prepare for the start of something new! In this article we will be going over how to make a proposal personal to your relationship, locations, and what you are looking for in a photographer.

1) Make it personal

No one wants just a cookie cutter proposal. My goal is to make this moment special to YOU. So here are some tips to make that possible...


  • Set up a call with your photographer. Tell her about your story! We love to hear about how you met, what you love most about your person, and all those cheesy details. This will help us understand what vibe you are going for.
  • Find a location that is special. We will go over this in more detail later, but pick somewhere fun and intimate to you guys.
  • PRINT PICTURES! This is my favorite thing to do. Having pictures displayed at your proposal is such a fun way to stop and reflect on your relationship.
  • Embrace the tension. She will probably suspect that something is happening. Don't avoid it, embrace it. Stop in that moment and dwell in the fact that you are about to ask the love of your life for their hand in marriage.
  • Have family and friends help set up! Even if you are wanting the moment to be just you two, this is such a fun way to have your loved ones involved as well. Plus it takes some of the stress off your shoulders.

2) Location


This is a big one that lots of people get stumped on. The location does not need to be perfect so don't stress! When looking for a location think about...

  • Where you and your person love going the most?
  • Do you like indoor or outdoor? What will the weather be like?
  • Do you want somewhere private, or do you mind having a little bit of an audience?
  • Would you like a set up? Or will scenery itself be the setup?
  • Is there a location that is sentimental to both of you guys?

3) Picking your photographer


When picking your photographer, remember this person is capturing one of the most special moments in your life. HOW EXCITING! Find someone you trust and is capable to do this for you. Your first step is to contact the photographer and set up a call with them. This is for you and the photographer to get a feel for each other to make sure you are a good fit! It is important for you ask about what services they provide. Will they be capturing proposal only? Or will they offer a little mini engagement photoshoot as well?
