Why movement matters

I have always been obsessed with how motion looks in photos. When I was studying for my BFA at Missouri State, I did an entire photography project based on movement and blurred photos. I had a professor mention something that I think will stick with me forever. He said "How cool is it that the camera can capture something the human eye could never see." WOW! How cool is that! Ever since then I have been addicted to motion blur.

How i use movement

Movement tells a story. When you are moving, you aren't thinking so much about how your hair looks, or if you are smiling "right". By directing someone through movement it lets them focus on what is happening right NOW. Movement helps people stay in the moment. Plus, it is just fun! Posed photos have their time and place, but come on, how fun is it to frolic through the field with the love of your life, or play tag with your kids, or even just spinning around in the pretty dress you bought for this exact occasion! Movement matters, it captures the genuine feelings of what is happening in that very moment.
